How do I change the address for an order that has already been shipped (or the label has been printed)?
Unfortunately – the short answer is you can’t (most of the time). It happens all the time. The buyer makes an order, you wait an hour or so past the 30 min cancellation window then you eagerly print the label. Next thing you know the buyer messages you and says it’s the wrong address. Another example is they quickly message you and inform you that the address is wrong. Keep in mind, most buyers are not sellers. They often think we control way more of the process than we actually do.
If the label has not been printed yet, you can request the buyer cancel the order and rebuy it.
If the label has been printed, you can refund the buyer, and the buyer can repurchase. If the item has been shipped, you should look to the carrier for advice. Another tip that works if the correct zip code is the same as the incorrect zip code is to write the new address on the label. Please check with your postal clerk when doing this.
One option is to use 3rd party shipping services. There are many out there as well as going directly to the carrier. Pirate Ship is often referenced. Their rates are sometimes more or less depending on the specifics.
*An anecdotal note. I prefer to only use facebook shipping for items where the size and weight are uniform, the value of the item is low, and the sales volume is high. It’s quick and easy. I prefer pirate ship for one-off items and difficult sizing.
**Another Anecdotal Note. If the change of address has the same Zip Code, then you can change the address by hand and send it off. This only works for labels that have the same zip code. The scan bars go to the zip code office, not the address.**
